Education Advisory We are looking for privacy leaders with diverse expertise to serve the privacy profession.

As the IAPP continues to grow as the central forum for active, involved privacy pros, we seek to offer greater participation in the strategies, programs and products the association evaluates and develops.

The IAPP has the following volunteer leadership opportunities for eligible members. Nominations will be accepted until the end of October. Most terms for these positions will begin in January 2008.

Education Advisory Boards
The existing 20-member Education Advisory Board supports the creation of compelling and timely programming for IAPP conferences and audio series. Members are selected based on area of industry expertise, CIPP status and IAPP participation. The board convenes during monthly conference calls to offer guidance on emerging privacy trends and issues. Members are asked to recommend programming that encompasses global privacy issues and ensure content serves the needs of beginners as well as advanced privacy pros. Other duties include networking with peers to promote, support and field inquiries on IAPP event programming.
This summer, the IAPP is establishing a Canadian Education Advisory Board to plan a new Canadian conference in 2008. Nominations for this new board must be received no later than Aug. 1, 2007.

Advisor Advisory Board
The IAPP relies on a diverse group of privacy pros to guide coverage of privacy and security issues for The Privacy Advisor, the IAPP's monthly member newsletter. The purpose of the Advisory Board is to tap our most valuable resource — you and your fellow privacy pros. We want you to help us gauge hot topics, spot emerging trends and expand our network of experts to generate useful and thoughtful Advisor content. Candidates with a publication and/or writing background are urged to apply. Besides meaningful participation in the monthly conference call, we will rely on members to provide two articles a year, at least one of which you will author, as well as occasional features on topics specific to your area of expertise (Ask The Privacy Expert). We also would appreciate any efforts to recruit potential authors.

INSIDE 1to1: Privacy
The IAPP, in conjunction with Peppers & Rogers Group, publishes a monthly e-newsletter, INSIDE 1to1: Privacy, which explores the relationship between privacy and trust. We are seeking privacy pros to serve on our Advisory Board, which convenes monthly by conference call with Don Peppers and Martha Rogers, Ph.D., to engage in a dialogue about relevant privacy and trust topics for coverage in our well-read publication. We are seeking privacy thought leaders, practicing privacy pros, and attorneys to provide expertise to guide our insightful editorial content.

IAPP Certification Advisory Boards
The IAPP seeks senior privacy officers, attorneys and consultants with demonstrated subject matter expertise in the areas covered under our privacy credentialing programs: foundation course (CIPP), U.S. government (CIPP/G) and Canadian privacy (CIPP/C). These CIPP advisory boards (one body for each program) meet regularly via phone conference and provide insight and perspective to the IAPP regarding certification course requirements, testing protocols, continuing education and program oversight. Opportunities also exist for development of future credentialing programs.

IAPP Board of Directors
The Board of the IAPP is comprised of at least 18 members of the privacy profession who are expected to participate actively in some aspect of our operations. Board members, who must make a 5-year commitment to serve the IAPP, are required to help the organization achieve its mission. Nominations — which must include the reasons for wanting to serve the IAPP as well as a brief biographical summary — may be made at any time of the year by a candidate, or on a candidate's behalf. The Executive Director will compile all nominations and provide them to the chairman of the Nominating Committee, which generally meets in the last quarter of the year to consider the candidacies. The Nominating Committee will forward its recommendations to the full board for consideration and election.

The Nominating Committee will assess candidates based on their qualifications, including, but not limited to:

  • Participation in IAPP conferences
  • CIPP status
  • Submission of articles to publications
  • Existing leadership roles within the IAPP
  • Industry diversity, geographic diversity and gender/race/ethic diversity.

All nominations should be sent to J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, Executive Director of the IAPP, at
