Cybersecurity researchers have discovered an unsecure database containing 700,000 records belonging to Choice Hotels, ZDNet reports. The U.S. hospitality chain confirmed the breach, saying that names, email addresses and phone numbers were among the records exposed on the vendor-operated database. "The vendor was working with the data as part of a proposal to provide a tool," a Choice Hotels spokesperson said. "We are evaluating other vendor relationships and working to put additional controls in place to prevent any future occurrences of this nature." Researchers also found a ransom note attached to the database that asked for $4,000 from its owner.
