The British Department of Transport has published temporary guidelines to safeguard travelers' privacy. The guidelines come in response to two UK airports' February implementation of body scanners, the Hunton and Williams Privacy and Information Security Law Blog reports. The Interim Code of Practice includes privacy, health and safety, data protection and equality issues associated with the use of full body scanners. It also calls for "an effective privacy policy" to safeguard personal and data privacy as body images are recorded. A Final Code of Practice is expected later this year, following public consultation on the interim code.
