India releases first draft of potential data protection law

After months of work, a Data Protection Committee headed by Justice B. N. Srikrishna has submitted a report to the Indian government on “A Free and Fair Digital Economy Protecting Privacy, Empowering Indians.” In this press conference, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who heads the Parliament's portfolio for Electronics and Information Technology, thanks the committee for its work and comments on the importance of a data protection law in helping India to move forward in the digital economy. By bridging the developing world and more industrialized and digitized nations, India, he says, can create a truly contemporary and global privacy framework.
