Workers compensation companies such as Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Cypress Insurance and Zenith Insurance face lawsuits after they were found to have hacked into “tens of thousands legal files … over a period of years” as a way to cut costs and get a legal leg up, Courthouse News Service reports. “The defendants stole these files from servers used by law firms representing the individual litigants and used the illegally obtained information to obtain a litigation advantage,” said Hector Casillas, a client of one of the hacked companies, adding, “Their corrupt conduct evidenced a total disregard for the integrity of the judicial system."
