The Virginia Supreme Court ruled law enforcement agencies can continue collecting license plate data from automated license plate readers, Courthouse News Service reports. Harrison Neal filed a lawsuit in 2015 claiming the Fairfax Police Department’s use of the cameras violated state privacy laws. Justice Stephen McCullough ruled it does not as the system is not considered a “record-keeping process” and does not collect additional data, such as phone numbers or addresses.
