PDPC’s Yeong Zee Kin opened the IAPP Asia Privacy Forum 2016 with a keynote speech. With his deep background in technology law, he detailed for delegates the PDPC’s enforcement priorities and the immense challenges privacy professionals face in the digital age. “Data − it has often been said to be — is the new oil, the new currency of the digital economy,” he said. “And I think that no one will quarrel with the proposition that the ability to make better use of data is going to set one business apart from another, that will set one economy apart from another. Equally important is [that] data … the innovation of data, needs to lie on a bedrock.” “Strong privacy regulation is that bedrock,” he continued.
