EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová is visiting Japan from Dec. 13 - 15 "to make progress on the data protection discussions with the aim to reaching an adequacy decision as soon as possible in 2018," a European Commission press release states. This week's visit includes meetings with Japan's Personal Information Protection Commissioner Masao Horibe as well as members of the Japanese Parliament working on data protection issues. Jourová will also discuss the EU General Data Protection Regulation with Japan's Business Federation; artificial intelligence and robotics with the vice minister of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; judicial cooperation with the nation's Ministry of Justice Senior Vice Minister; and data privacy issues with several civil society organizations and consumer groups.
