The New York Times reports that 191 million U.S. voter records, of mysterious origin, were published in an online database in the week prior to the New Year by an unknown antagonist. The information, which has since been removed from the Internet, encompassed everything from full names to voting history. “Information technology specialist” Chris Vickery discovered the breach, and disclosed in a Reuters report that he is working with federal agencies to discover the culprit. “The alarming part is that the information is so concentrated," Vickery said. “A trove of all U.S. voter data could be valuable to criminals looking for lists of large numbers of targets for a variety of fraud schemes,” the report adds.
