With internet-of-things technology on the rise, the U.K. is preparing legislation to make such products more secure, BBC News reports. The proposed laws introduced by U.K. Digital Minister Margot James would require IoT devices to come with unique passwords, clearly state the availability of security updates, and offer a public assistant to contact with cybersecurity concerns. The legislation follows a voluntary code of practice that was published in the U.K. last year for manufacturers. "Serious security problems in consumer IOT devices, such as pre-set unchangeable passwords, continue to be discovered — and it's unacceptable that these are not being fixed by manufacturers," U.K. National Cyber Security Centre Technical Director Ian Levy said.
