Telecom and tech companies are concerned about the results of Brexit and are pressing the U.K. government to negotiate a deal to keep internet borders open, Bloomberg reports. The companies fear Brexit could block internet traffic and seriously damage a fast growing part of the U.K. economy. The U.K. houses nearly 500 server farms in countries such as Germany, France and the Netherlands. The farms support a service sector consisting of 80 percent of the British economy. “Tech companies and data center operators are looking for assurances from the government that legal certainties on data flows between the U.K. and the EU will be a priority in forthcoming negotiations,” said Policy Director for Brexit affairs at TechUK Charlotte Holloway. Editor’s Note: The IAPP will be hosting a discussion titled “So We Have Brexit: What Now for Data Protection?” at the Privacy.
