The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office released a revised approach to engagement and enforcement in the public sector. Under the approach, the ICO said the commissioner has discretion to reduce the impact of fines on the public sector and better engage the public sector through sharing good practices and lessons learned, as well as encouraging compliance and preventative actions. “In practice, this will mean an increased use of the ICO’s wider powers, including warnings, reprimands and enforcement notices, with fines only issued in the most serious cases,” the ICO said.
