The Washington Post reports Twitter has announced it "inadvertently" used an unspecified number of phone numbers and email addresses for advertising in a system error. "We cannot say with certainty how many people were impacted by this, but in an effort to be transparent, we wanted to make everyone aware," Twitter said in a statement. "No personal data was ever shared externally with our partners or any other third parties." Twitter said it may have matched the personal information to a marketer's list that is generated from advertisers uploading their own contact lists and matching them with Twitter accounts.
