Telecom industry executives spoke of the importance of protecting user privacy and the localization of sensitive data at the recent India Mobile Congress 2019, The Economic Times reports. The discussion comes as the Indian government firms up individual data privacy laws and laws on how companies and organizations treat non-personal data. “[We] live in a data world and we live in a world where security of the nation, security of the industry and security of the economy and the security of the citizens are paramount,” Reliance Jio President of Network, Global Strategy and Service Development Mathew Oommen said. Meanwhile, Ruder Finn Global CEO Kathy Bloomgarden said data localization could help India better protect the privacy of its citizens.
