Inc. reports on the myriad “angry start-ups” that have proliferated in response to the “pale, sweaty underbelly of the Internet.” Wickr Cofounder and CEO Nico Sell calls herself “properly paranoid” and established her app to ensure her young daughters could communicate safely and anonymously with the capacity to control what information is retained on the other end. Her app is one of many chat tools, including Privatext, TigerText and Whisper. Their founders are looking to “flip the switch on how we live and share and do business online,” the report states. They see the status quo as not only a violation of privacy but also as “fatal to innovation.”
