The Sri Lankan cabinet has approved the drafting of amendments that would establish a Digital Identity Council, Lanka Business Online reports. The council would oversee the implementation of the national policy on data collection, transfer and storage within the Household Transfer Management project. The 2015-born HTM project "aims to establish a National Digital Identifier and National Digital Transaction platform where data including biometric information of citizens would be stored and shared with government organizations through a National Authentication Platform," the report states. The council would then ensure that the platform would be "managed with the highest level of trust, proper governance and policy framework," the report adds. Once the cabinet approves the eventual draft amendments, it will proceed to Parliament.
