With the proposed EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) right around the corner, “It’s time for businesses to contemplate how to comply … generally and specifically,” writes SPQR Strategies’ Tim Sparapani, adding, “A key takeaway from the draft GDPR is the importance of companies providing meaningful notice to consumers about—and choice with respect to—the companies’ collection, use, sharing, storage and security of consumer data.” What isn’t so clear, he notes, “is what constitutes effective notice and choice.” In this post for Privacy Perspectives, Sparapani contends that a one-size-fits-all approach is not the answer, and as a result, regulators on both sides of the Atlantic must “align their requirements with the relative data risk … between a company and the customer whose personal data is involved.”
