In an interview with The Verge, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., discusses his thoughts on the path forward for federal privacy legislation in the U.S., what drew him to engage in tech policy to begin with, and his thoughts on various legislative measures currently in place. Hawley called the issues surrounding big tech "one of the great defining issues of our day," and added, "These platforms are so powerful and the control over the information flow to consumers of these platforms so significant that bias really does have an effect." Looking forward to any potential federal privacy legislation, Hawley said, "I think that the whole gamut should be on the table for what it looks like" and raised particular attention to informing consumers of the value and importance of their data.
