A coalition of civil liberties organizations accused U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and other lawmakers of undermining citizens' and immigrants' privacy to uphold unlawful surveillance practices, Gizmodo reports. In a letter to high-ranking Congress members, the groups said statements by Schiff and others "(suggest) the government may have secretly contorted" Section 215 of the Patriot Act to "justify dragnet surveillance of the internet activity of people in the United States.” Meanwhile, Bloomberg Law looks at how surveillance against protesters may play out in constitutional court cases.
