Wired reports that researchers from security firm Checkmarx found that, because Tinder does not encrypt photos, users on the same Wi-Fi network are vulnerable to having their activity data intercepted. In a statement to Wired, a company spokesman said, "like every other technology company, we are constantly improving our defenses in the battle against malicious hackers,” adding that the web-based version of Tinder is HTTPS-encrypted. "We are working towards encrypting images on our app experience as well," the spokesman noted. "However, we do not go into any further detail on the specific security tools we use, or enhancements we may implement to avoid tipping off would-be hackers."
