In an op-ed for the South China Morning Post, Columnist Cliff Buddle writes proposed changes to data privacy laws to address doxxing in Hong Kong are “another case of legal overreach.” The proposal would carry jail time for disclosing personal data without consent and give the privacy commissioner power to investigate and prosecute doxxing cases. While regulation is needed, Buddle said, “there is also a need for balance,” urging laws that make access to information easier.
