In a blog post, Privacy International expresses concern about governments using location tracking to stem the flow of new COVID-19 cases. The organization says it has been “pushing back against measures of this type for two decades.” It explains individuals cannot choose whether to participate in tracking, and do not know if they have been tracked, because data is provided to governments directly from telecommunications providers. “We remain incredibly wary of the reuse of this data,” they write.
