  • A data breach exposed records of 400,000 Planned Parenthood Los Angeles patients online, CNET reports. An unauthorized individual accessed the organization’s network between Oct. 9 and 17, installing malware and obtaining data including names, birthdates, addresses, insurance identification numbers and clinical data.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice arrested former developer Nickolas Sharp for allegedly stealing “confidential files” from a New York-based technology company where he was employed and then demanding nearly $2 million for return of the compromised data, PCMag reports. Sharp reportedly previously worked for networking equipment provider Ubiquiti, which disclosed a data breach in January.
