The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada announced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Philippe Dufresne as privacy commissioner. Dufresne will begin his seven-year term June 27. The appointment comes after Dufresne appeared before the House of Commons of Canada's Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, after which the House of Commons and the Senate approved the appointment by resolution.
