Apps at pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS that swap discounts for customer location and health data are inspiring cries of consternation from some in the privacy community, STAT News reports. “It’s extremely concerning,” said Privacy Rights Clearinghouse’s Paul Stephens, who argues that customers are trading “very, very valuable” personal information for unimpressive discounts, leaving room for the data to be stolen, shared or over-exposed. “There is no free lunch,” he added. Meanwhile, a Black Book Research Group study found that data security concerns are keeping “health IT payers” from employing third-party data processors based overseas, Health IT Security reports.
