The Online Trust Alliance has issued a call for public comments about criteria for inclusion in its 2018 Online Trust Audit. The OTA audit evaluates the responsible online privacy and data security practices of more than 1,000 consumer-facing organizations across the public and private sectors. The audit attempts to promote and increase consumer confidence by recognizing companies that go beyond basic data security and privacy compliance. OTA Initiative at Internet Society Director Jeff Wilbur explained, “When organizations don’t adapt their online security and privacy practices, consumer trust in them is impacted.” Editor's Note: The OTA will explore the lessons learned from its 2017 trust audit at the Privacy. Security. Risk. conference in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 17.
