Access Now and a coalition of 12 organizations are calling on Jamaican authorities to include human rights principles, processing of personal data and accessibility in a new digital ID bill. The group’s submission to the Joint Select Committee of Parliament said using biometrics in digital identity systems threatens individual rights. They recommend minimizing data collection, regulating that information from the system is shared only for authenticating identity, and establishing an independent overseeing authority.
