In an Op-Ed for EURACTIV, Mike Cherry, U.K. national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, warns that the burden of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, occurring in tandem with other data regulations, such as e-Privacy, geo-blocking and the free flow of non-personal data, has the potential to overwhelm small businesses across Europe. Cherry writes that having so many new laws on data occurring simultaneously have a negative cumulative impact on a company’s ability to process and implement GDPR on schedule. Cherry said, “As things stand, a delay in the introduction of any other data protection regulations, such as the proposed ePrivacy Regulation, must be considered until small businesses have had time to fully implement and assess the impact of the GDPR.”
