Filling the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board would be an "easy win" for the Trump administration, writes Georgetown University Law Center's Carrie Cordrero, CIPP/US, in an op-ed for Lawfare. "Replenishing the PCLOB board will ensure that it can effectively chart a new agenda that is timely and prospective based on the goals, needs and activities of the U.S. Intelligence Community going forward," Cordrero writes. "Because the board’s membership is comprised of Senate-confirmed members, the confirmation process enables members of both parties concerned about the privacy impact of counterterrorism policies to have a voice in shaping the board’s composition, and the confidence that independent oversight within the executive branch will continue."
