The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights announced its 18th settlement under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Right of Access Initiative. New Jersey–based Village Plastic Surgery will take corrective actions and pay $30,000 under the settlement, following a complaint it failed to timely comply with a patient’s records access request. “Covered entities must comply with their HIPAA obligations and OCR will take appropriate remedial actions if they do not,” Acting OCR Director Robinsue Frohboese said.
