The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology released its guidance on the government’s approach to develop technical and ethical standards for artificial intelligence, Nextgov reports. The guidance includes initiatives to assist the government in its efforts to highlight responsible AI use, as well as principles for future standards around the technology. The agency advises that any federal standards for AI must be built to foster innovation and minimize risks of harm. “It is important for those participating in AI standards development to be aware of, and to act consistently with, U.S. government policies and principles, including those that address societal and ethical issues, governance and privacy,” the guidance states.
