In New South Wales, the 2018–19 budget earmarks $20 million, spread over four years, to help develop the state’s “preparedness for and response to cyber security issues across all agencies,” Computerworld reports. The boost in cybersecurity spending follows a recent report from the state’s auditor-general that detailed the state’s abilities to detect and respond to cyberincidents “needs to improve significantly and quickly.” The state government also announced a $10 million fund would be started to support trials of connected vehicle technology, $880 million committed to digital upgrades for rail services, and $54.4 million to help implement the National Facial Biometric Matching Capability.
