After being found legally responsible for a 2014 data breach, supermarket chain Morrisons applied directly to the Supreme Court and has been granted permission to appeal the decision, Computer Weekly reports. In October 2018, the U.K. Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s ruling against Morrisons and determined Morrisons was liable for the breach in which an employee stole the personal information of nearly 100,000 employees. Previously, Morrisons stated the courts held the company responsible for the criminal actions of a former employee rather than the way it protected employee data.
