Doug Hauger is general manager for cloud programs at Microsoft. He’s been a busy man, given Microsoft’s ongoing legal battle with the U.S. government over a warrant to access data held in a Microsoft data center in Dublin. He talks to ComputerWeekly about the issue, and Microsoft’s promise to EU customers to keep data within the EU. “One of the things people are concerned about is data residency,” Hauger said. He added, “When we look at pillars of the trusted cloud, one of the pillars is privacy and control. We believe customers’ data is their data, and they have a right to privacy around that data and a right to control that data.” Editor’s note: Microsoft President Brad Smith will deliver a keynote address at the IAPP Privacy Summit in April 2016.
