A British Columbia judge certified a class-action lawsuit alleging U.S.-based marketing platform Hyp3r breached Instagram’s privacy notice, the Vancouver Sun reports. The firm was ordered to pay more than $24 million in damages. The class action alleges the platform collected, retained and exploited the personal information of Canada’s 2.4 million Instagram users without notice or consent. The judge called the company’s actions “invasive” and said each class member should be entitled to $10 in damages.
