City council members in Madison, Wisconsin, proposed a ban on the use of facial recognition by government entities and law enforcement, Government Technology reports. The ordinance would prohibit automated or semi-automated processes used for identifying or verifying an individual or that capture and store personally identifiable facial images. "The main concern driving this proposal is the protection of civil liberties and privacy," Alderperson Rebecca Kemble said, adding she doesn't want the citizens to become "walking ID cards, vulnerable to unwarranted surveillance."
