The public session of this year’s International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners will focus on stimulating a discussion of data ethics, according to European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli. He writes, “Everywhere, the digital dividend between those who benefit from technology and those who are harmed by it seems to be increasingly unfair.” Buttarelli said that by discussing ethics in the digital age, it will help to ensure that “human beings, not technology, remain our primary consideration in this digital era.” “Debating Ethics: Dignity and Respect in Data Driven Life” will take place at the European Parliament Oct. 24–25.
