The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office announced a 10,000 GBP fine against the Conservative Party for sending 51 unlawful marketing emails in July 2019. The ICO's investigation found the party did not retain clear records regarding individuals' consent to receive marketing emails. "All organizations — be they political parties, businesses or others — should give people clear information and choices about what is being done with their personal data," ICO Director of Investigations Steve Eckersley said, adding the Conservative Party "ought to have known this, but failed to comply with the law."
