The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office is calling for increased transparency on the ways data flows result in individuals receiving targeted political ads, TechCrunch reports. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said more transparency into the process will give data subjects a better understanding of how their information is used, giving them more insight into whether they wish to opt-out of receiving future messages. “Data protection is not a back-room, back-office issue anymore,” Denham said. “It is right at the centre of these debates about our democracy, the impact of social media on our lives and the need for these companies to step up and take their responsibilities seriously.”
