Ian Kerr, Canada Research Chair in Ethics, Law & Technology for the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, has died at age 54. "He was a singular talent, whose impact not just on the field, but on everyone he worked with, taught, mentored, or lectured will be felt for decades to come," University of Ottawa Law professor Michael Geist wrote in a tribute to his colleague. "It is tempting — indeed deserving — to focus on a truly breathtaking record of academic achievement. ...  Yet Ian’s towering career does not tell the most important part of the story nor explain why his loss is so difficult." IAPP President and CEO J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, tweeted that Kerr, a keynote speaker at IAPP's Navigate event in 2013, was "one of the most brilliant minds and gentlest souls in our field."
