Modern Healthcare reports that some health care IT organizations have asked the Office of the National Coordinator to clarify details in its interoperability framework, particularly around how health information networks and patients exchange information. The comments come after the ONC posted a draft Trusted Exchange Framework, in accordance with the 21st Century Cures Act, the report states. Meanwhile, an advocacy group is calling for improved data sharing and more consistency with privacy laws to help control opioid prescriptions. The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives said technology has a role to play here and that integrating electronic health records with prescription drug monitoring programs can help, along with more consistency around state and federal patient privacy laws.
