A hacker gained unauthorized access to the Illuminate Education software used by the New York City Department of Education, exposing personal data of approximately 820,000 current and former students, The New York Post reports. Student names, birthdays and ethnicities, as well as special education and free-lunch statuses dating back to the 2016-17 school year were exposed. School officials accused Illuminate of failing to encrypt its platforms and called for city, state and federal investigations.
