Some mobile phone companies in Germany are participating in a trial that assigns users pseudo-anonymous digital tokens to create personalized product recommendations instead of using third-party tracking cookies, Wired reports. TrustPid said its tokens enable recommendations in a “secure and privacy-friendly way,” while privacy advocates said the technology is a “supercookie” and have called for a stop to the trial. Vodafone Group is overseeing the trial and Senior Manager of Corporate Communications Simon Poulter said the tech was built with a privacy-first design and complies with privacy legislation.
