Germany’s Federal Cartel Office, the Bundeskartellamt, published an interim report on its inquiry into messenger and video services, launched in November 2020. The report presents an overview of the sector, results of a survey of more than 40 service providers available in Germany, and an assessment of information collected through the services. The Federal Office for Information Security published an accompanying technical paper describing the functionalities, communication protocols and security properties of messenger services.
