Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) on Tuesday urged the Department of Transportation to further regulate airlines’ use of “personalized pricing,” which allows the industry to charge consumers different prices for airline tickets depending on their ZIP codes, StarTribune reports. The department gave the industry permission to do so last year, but Franken said in a letter signed by four other senators that he’s concerned the practice may be anti-consumer and discriminatory. Franken said he wants the airline industry to be transparent about what it knows about consumers. The lobbying group for the airline industry urged consumers to shop anonymously if they don’t want airlines knowing certain information about them.
