Following initial alarm bells over Mattel’s release of a Wi-Fi-connected, artificially intelligent Barbie, Future of Privacy Forum has looked more closely at the toy’s privacy implications, Fusion reports, and found the danger is more in the symbolism than the reality. “In short, Hello Barbie is a pretty simple and not especially compelling toy, but her little plastic face launched a thousand news stories because of what she represents: a future in which the devices around us can collect information about us, judge us, influence us and report back what we’re doing,” the report states.
