The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services proposed a new rule aimed at streamlining the reimbursement process for telehealth services, GovInfoSecurity reports. In the 1,473-page proposal, federal regulators proposed “reducing the burden of paperwork that clinicians face when billing Medicare,” “restoring the doctor-patient relationship,” and “promoting interoperability” by restructuring the documentation process for electronic health records. As telehealth expands, Susan Lucci, senior privacy and security consultant at tw-Security, said that from both a patient and provider perspective, privacy and security practices should be top of mind. Lucci said, “It is certainly essential that healthcare organizations providing these services do their part, and the patients must remember that vulnerabilities may be present on their home device.”
