Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey faced questions from the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee on their practices, Bloomberg reports. Dorsey and Sandberg were asked about a variety of issues, including why the social media platforms cannot inform users when they are interacting with a bot, information on the inner workings of their algorithms for determining what content is banned, the number of human moderators each company employs, and their collaborations with law enforcement. Lawmakers also discussed the possibility of privacy legislation. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement it is meeting with state attorneys general "to discuss a growing concern that these companies may be hurting competition and intentionally stifling the free exchange of ideas on their platforms."
