A class-action suit against Facebook for “alleged data protection violations" is having its first hearing in Vienna's regional court, Tech Crunch reports. The suit, which was initiated by Europe V Facebook's Max Schrems, alleges "unlawful acts" by Facebook, including a data use policy that is invalid under EU law. Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reports, Facebook has "pushed back” against a report commissioned by the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA) “but admitted that the academics found a 'bug' that mistakenly tracked people even while they weren't on Facebook's website." The DPA’s report generated an official question from the EU Parliament to the European Commission, and the Article 29 Working Party will discuss the report at its meeting next week, Sam Pfeifle reports for The Privacy Advisor.
