The European Commission announced its guidance on data protection for apps aimed at combating COVID-19. The Commission explained prerequisites for app development before applying the guidance, which was released with the EU toolbox for contact tracing apps. "Our guidance supports the safe development of apps and protect[s] our citizens' personal data, in line with the EU's strong data protection rules," Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said. Vice President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová added the EU's approach to apps "will be transparent and proportional."
